Princess Profile of the Day: Rapunzel
Posted to: Weddings by Lorin Laxton on Jun 25, 2012 Princess Name: Rapunzel
Symbol Used in Exhibit: Tower
Story: Rapunzel, let down your hair, so that I may climb the golden stair. Upon hearing these words, Rapunzel would let down her long fair hair, and the evil enchantress, Dame Gothel would climb up the hair to Rapunzel's tower room. One day, a handsome Prince rides through the forest and hears Rapunzel singing from the tower. Entranced by her ethereal voice, he searches for the girl and discovers the tower, but is naturally unable to enter. He returns often, listening to her beautiful singing, and one day sees Dame Gothel visit, and thus learns how to gain access to Rapunzel. When the evil enchantress is gone, he bids Rapunzel let her hair down. When she does so, he climbs up, makes her acquaintance, and eventually asks her her to run away with him and marry, Rapunzel agrees. The Prince took Rapunzel to his father's palace. where he told his story. The King threw a great celebration and the Prince and Rapunzel lived happily ever after.
Theme: Independence
Reason for Choosing: We took inspiration from Disney's Tangled--we loved how her hair was so crazy and long! The table itself incorporated the dress and the handbag, as a celebration of hair as a feminine attribute.
