Magic in Ice

Posted to: Events by Lorin Laxton on Mar 24, 2014

Over the past 25 years, Catering Works has partnered with many industry professionals to create and collaborate on beautiful and delicious events.  Todd Dawson from Ice Occasions is one of those industry partners.  He is a creative genius and consistently reliable, always willing to go the extra mile to ensure our customers are satisfied, and in short - he makes us look good!  Recently Todd competed in the World Ice Art Championships, and his team took 2nd place for the most realistic category.  This is a global competition, with 241 artists present in 2014 and over 45 different countries represented since the inception of the Ice Alaska organization (1990).   The competition draws approximately 45,000 people each year - this is a big deal!  Todd's team competed in the multi-block challenge.  Over 6 days, they worked 16 hours per day and sculpted 10 blocks.  Each block weighs over 4000 lbs.  Their winning design "The Soul of the Moon" a truly spectacular piece of art.  Here are some photos from the event, to give you some perspective on the overall size and techniques involved.
